Cosmetic Standards & Terms Agreement

Thank you for choosing Grace & Grain Furniture LLC for your handcrafted furniture. We take great pride in our work and are excited to create a one-of-a-kind piece just for you. Before proceeding with your order, we ask that you carefully read through the following Cosmetic Standards & Terms Agreement.

Our Definition of Heirloom Furniture

Heirloom furniture is handcrafted hardwood furniture built with the intention, integrity, and durability to be lived with today and passed down tomorrow.

It's furniture that carries story, holds memory, and stands strong through generations of family life. Every piece we build is designed to age with beauty, endure with strength, and become part of the legacy of the home it belongs to.

Cosmetic Standards

At Grace & Grain, every piece of furniture is handcrafted using solid wood, ensuring that each item is unique and full of character. While we make every effort to create furniture that meets your expectations, the handcrafted nature of our work means that there will be some natural variations and imperfections. These are not defects but rather part of the charm and beauty of custom furniture. Please review the following guidelines to understand what to expect:

Wood & Stain Variations

Each piece of wood is unique, and slight color variations and grain patterns should be expected. We cannot guarantee exact stain matches to previous orders. While we will use the stain or paint color you request, the result may vary slightly from the example you had in mind. This is a normal characteristic of working with solid wood, and we cannot rework the finish to achieve a perfect match.

Matching Stain Colors

We do NOT match stain colors off of photos. The only way we can do any type of custom stain color for you is if you bring us the stain yourself and tell us which type of wood to use. All wood types receive stain differently. Once you bring us the stain and tell us which wood to use, we will do what you've asked, however — we cannot rework staining that did not come out exactly as you had in mind. Why? Because every piece of wood has a unique grain pattern and there will always be slight color variations.

Sanding & Stain

The finer the finish you choose, the lighter the stain will be, as less stain is absorbed when the pores of the wood are closed. Distressed finishes, on the other hand, will absorb more stain, resulting in a darker appearance. Please be aware that the finish on a finely sanded, non-distressed table will differ from one that is heavily distressed.

General Variations in Furniture

Other characteristics of handcrafted, solid wood furniture include open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections and textural variations in the durable, hand brushed finishes, unique distress marks, exposed screws, wood filler marks, joint lines, and distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, and other imperfections. We allow up to approximately 1 in of variation across all measurements due to the custom nature of the handcrafted furniture we build.

Wood Movement

Solid wood will naturally expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity. This means that slight gaps between the boards of a traditional table may widen or shrink over time. These changes do not affect the structural integrity of the table and are not considered defects.

Those who do not appreciate variations and imperfections should not purchase handcrafted furniture.

At Grace & Grain, we do not offer machine manufactured perfection — no two pieces are exactly alike since Grace & Grain furniture is crafted to your order specifications.

We celebrate the true uniqueness of every piece of solid wood furniture that is built and finished by hand in our wood shop. It is our hope that you will as well.

Lead Times

With your order you were given a lead time. With multiple orders in our queue at any given time, lead times are PURELY ESTIMATES. We have been known to get orders complete and to customers before the estimated lead time given and there have also been issues that have happened in production, or in shipping, that delayed orders beyond lead times. The lead time that we have given you is our best guess at when you will get your table. It's better to get it a few weeks later than quoted and it be up to quality standards since you plan to have it for years to come, than it is to get it on time and it fail quality standards.

Photography & Marketing Use

Grace & Grain Furniture LLC reserves the right to photograph your finished piece prior to or at delivery, and to use those photos, along with a description of the piece, for our portfolio, website, and social media. If you'd rather we leave out identifying details of your home, just let us know and we're happy to accommodate.
